Write Off the Deep End

Pay attention. There will be a test. There will be prizes.

Shades of Truth has officially released and it should be in stores by the weekend!!!

What does that have to do with writing off the deep end?!

Allow me to introduce my fellow Wodians. So named for our writing group: WODE–which stands for Write Off the Deep End.

Readers and writers alike often ask me about my writing process. These ladies are a big part of it. Once a month we get together to offer each other feedback on what we’ve written or to brainstorm new story ideas.

The group “found me” a few years ago after my RWA magazine was delivered to the wrong house. (Divine redirection!) The recipient was so excited to find another writer in our community that she hand-delivered the magazine and invited me to the next WODE meeting.

She has since become a treasured critique partner. Remember the grocery store murder discussion from January? That was with her. 🙂

In honor of the positive impact WODE has had on my writing career, I used the “word” WODE in Shades of Truth.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find the location and email me the page number (and book version). 🙂 In June, I will draw from a hat the name (of all correct answers) and they will receive a $25 gift certificate for their favorite book retailer.

Your Turn: Do you have a special friend or group with which you share a common interest or hobby or pursuit?

  • Yay for your book!! Congrats!!

Yes, I have a local writing group I love (and a sub-section of us meet separately for long fiction brainstorming days – LOVE those days). I also love my fellow MBT Ponderers – writers scattered throughout the country who connected at MBT retreats. Love these women…they build me up in sooo many ways!

  • CONGRATS on your release, Sandra! Looks like a great bunch of women. My crit group is invaluable to me – not only in terms of improving my writing, but helping me navigate the whole publishing process and brainstorming ideas with me.

  • Thanks everyone, I see only the writers have chimed in so far on groups…I guess because we like to write comments, too. 🙂

When my kids were little, Kangaroo Klub was my favorite place to hang out with other moms.

  • So much fun to see that your book is hitting shelves! And in Canada no less. And how much fun is it to have found a writing group? And by a mistaken delivery. Seriously — that has to go into a book. What a perfect way for a hero and heroine to meet. Ah yes, I see it now, a mis-directed Dog Fancy — the shetland sheepdog special — gets delivered to the hero who simply has to meet a fellow sheltie fancier up close and personal and, well, the rest is history! 🙂

I have a special online writing group that means the world to me. And in my professional life there’s a core group of school library techs who meet every couple of months at a restaurant and stay until closing! LOL, we have so much fun! It’s so nice to meet with others who get your joys and frustrations, isn’t it?

    • Love it, Kav! You’re a fount of ideas. Wish you lived close enough to be in our local writing group. The brainstorm sessions would be a blast.
I love the sound of your library techs group.

  • Sadly I am a lone wolf aside from my crit partners alone. I dream of the day I get to sit down with an actual person and brainstorm ideas.

Just ordered my copy of Shades of Truth yesterday! Unfortunately, my “free” shipping qualification from Amazon is grouping it together with a few other preorders that will not be released until May. Not sure I will be able to wait so it looks like I’ll have to go to walmart and give my other copy away when it arrives. 🙂

    • I suspect Amazon will ship it on ahead, despite what they say. I was expecting the same thing on a previous order and the one book arrived two days after I ordered. The other…still waiting for and it was supposed to release a month ago. 😉

  • My friend and I work together as buyers. We would buy from plumbing supplies to cars for the city. We ended up sharing of where are the best bargains of buying foods, clothing, furniture and even going to restaurants. We even kid around that we take our works home because we just know where the best pricing and deals are.

Great to "see" you here today! I look forward to reading your comment.
