Fun Friday – Tea Anyone?

I’ve spent the last, oh, three weeks answering (or ignoring) every imaginable question you could think to ask a debut author in a blog interview. At least, that’s what I thought until Kav threw some wildly creative ones at me, to which my turned-to-mush brain couldn’t whip up a single pithy reply.

For example: If you could host a tea party with four book characters, who would you invite?

Now, I don’t know about you, but I read so many books that after awhile the characters start losing their identities. Sure I remember Rhett Butler, but I don’t want him for tea.

My kids would probably name Lord of the Rings or Narnia characters, but I don’t read fantasy. Although, having Aslan for tea would be cool. Lots of questions I could ask him.

Of course, thinking of books that my kids read reminded me of my all-time favorite character—Lovable Furry Old Grover from The Monster at the End of this Book. But…I’m thinking, he’s not a tea drinker.

I tried to call up my ever-witty brainstorming buddy, who also happens to be part of a book club. She would’ve been able to give me some eccentric answer that would have been quite impressive, I’m sure.

But alas, she was out living it up with real people, while I wracked my brain over make-believe people to invite to my make-believe tea party.

So I decided to hold auditions.

That’s right you get to convince me who to invite: I’ll even make it a little easier. If you could host a party (any kind of party) with one or more book characters, what kind of party would you host and who would you invite?

(And Kav, I know you’re out there…I want to hear your answer, too!)

  • Poor Grover, he looks pretty depressed because you won’t invite him to your tea party!!!!!

Okay — first you have to understand that the answer to this question changes hourly but right now at this very minute I think I would invite Lena, Deborah, Ada and Cara from Cindy Woodsmall’s Sisters of the Quilt series. I just finished reading A Harvest of Grace and I’m all melancholy at having to say goodbye to these beloved characters.

Yes, four Amish women and moi…I’d be terribly intimidated because Ada and Deborah bake for a living and I’m sure whatever I turn out won’t match up to their baked goods. Maybe I could make it a potluck tea party! Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.

And since I don’t want my dog, Simba to feel left out, I’ll invite Better Days too. We’ll have our tea party outside since I’ve nearly finished weeding the perennial beds.

    See, it’s not that hard!

  • This is fun! I’d invite Elizabeth Bennett (Pride and Prejudice) for sure. Then, I don’t know. You’re right, it’s difficult to decide!

I just know this question is going to haunt me all day. Now I’m going to be thinking characters till I’m blue!

    Thanks, Sandra! 🙂

  • Okay, my dog Simba has been thinking about this while chasing squirrels in the backyard. He would like me to host a tea party for him and his four canine literary friends: Winn-Dixie, Stanley, Martha and McDuff. He wants me to go down to that swanky Bark & Fitz and pick up beef and liver cookies and salmon treats. Hmmmmm….yum!

  • Well, GFC just doesn’t like me today. I wasn’t able to follow with my blogger account – it just won’t let me sign in. I was able to follow with my twitter account, though, which I haven’t ever done before, so I don’t know if it will show up in my reader or not. Anyhow, I’m your newest follower!

Fun question. There’s this book called Hank and Chloe and two sequels and I always thought Chloe and I would get along fabulously. So I’d invite her and Black Beauty, as we both like horses so much.

  • Hi Lisa, happy to have you here. I see your smiling face under my followers with a little “t”. 🙂 I never know whether I’m going to see faces or not. Blogger definitely has some glitches to work out. I’ve never heard of the Hank and Chloe series, but we’re big fans of horses here. Between dogs and horses, I’m thinking outdoor tea party!

Great to "see" you here today! I look forward to reading your comment.
